Balayage pronounced (bah-lay-ah-je) is a french word meaning "to sweep" and it is a hair coloring technique that many celebrities have done to create very natural-looking highlights which grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root.

In response to popular demand many salons are now offering balayage hair coloring in which the stylist go through special training. During the balayage process the hair color is painted on by hand in a sweeping motion which moves from the base to the tip of the hair. It can be a time consuming process and requires a good eye and a steady hand, but many feel that end result is very worth it. The balayage lasts longer because as the hair grows out the root will be concealed by the thinner color applied to the base of the hair. Unlike a foil, hair looks like it has simply been highlighted by the sun in a more natural way. Many celebrities and models use the balayage hair coloring techniques some of them include Gisele B√ľndchen, Nicole Richie, Isabel Lucas, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Sarah Jessica Parker to name a few.
